:: Rangeland Evaluation and Monitoring

Information for sustainable utilization of rangeland requires accurate and frequent range assessment. Such information will be obtained from monitoring in the long term which is important for government agencies, range holders and application of remote sensing (RS) and geographic information systems (GIS). Changes in quantitative parameters, including abundance, vegetation composition, canopy cover and yield, are influenced by climatic conditions and management activities. So distinguishing and separating these is important for better management. The objective of this research was to investigate variation of vegetation parameters in the long term and to determine trend and severity of changes. Inventory and monitoring have always been central themes of rangeland management, as tools to assist in making wise decisions according to the productive potential of the land resource, such as, carrying capacity, utilization levels, grazing systems, and range improvements. Today under the philosophy of multiple use and increased legislative demands, however, inventory and monitoring programs serve a greater variety of interests and groups.

• Range inventory
• Rage potential, health, and suitability
• Range condition, trend, and carrying capacity Rangeland and techonogy
• Spatial and temporal rangeland monitoring
• Evaluation and conservation of rangeland biodiversity
• Functional types for rangeland monitoring
